The GOP Is the True Anti-Business Party

It doesn’t take a genius to realize that the Republican Party cares only about the Republican Party. The party, which once stood in opposition to slavery, now stands in favor only of the next election cycle.

Consider this, from Paul Krugman:

Republican politicians are at odds with corporate America on crucial issues. It’s not just vaccines. Corporate interests also want serious investment in infrastructure and find themselves on the outs with Republican leaders who don’t want to see Democrats achieve any policy successes. Basically, the G.O.P. is currently engaged in a major campaign of sabotage — its leaders want to see America do badly, because they believe this will redound to their political advantage — and if this hurts their corporate backers along the way, they don’t care.

Just to be clear, corporations aren’t being good guys. They support vaccine mandates and infrastructure investment because they believe that both would be good for their bottom lines. They’re still for the most part opposed to the rest of the Biden agenda, including — unforgivably — efforts to fight climate change, because they don’t want to pay higher taxes.

Still, the conflict between the G.O.P. and corporations is a striking new turn in American politics. And I wonder if some corporate leaders find themselves asking, in the privacy of their own minds, “My God, what have we done?”

And that’s the big question: What have they done? Corporations are quickly realizing they have little to no voice now in the party they bankrolled for generations.

When will donors to the GOP finally jump ship and side with the Dems? Like them or not, the Dems listen to everyone.

Universal Healthcare Saves Lives and Money

Lack of universal health care is killing us.
Lack of universal health care is killing us.

We’re literally being eaten alive with medical bills.

If you can’t afford insurance, you will not get proper medical care unless you can pay up front. If you CAN afford insurance, you pay more per year already than people in other countries WITH universal healthcare pay in a year, AND they live longer, according to statistics tracked for decades with the WHO.

Pay less, get more, no one left out. The math is simple.

Right now MILLIONS are still left out. Why would anyone say no to universal healthcare?

The math and the medicine are in our favor.

Right now, we’re paying money through the nose IF we can afford insurance. If we can’t, we die.

The math and economics are simple. Don’t believe the damn lies industry execs are telling you so they can keep their millions.

Will Trump's Senate Trial Be a Southern "Good Ol' White Boys" Sham or a Real Trial?

Crazy Donald Trump
Crazy Donald Trump

The 45th President of the United States has been impeached.

For those who might think this is a “symbolic” gesture because the U.S. Senate might not convict, think again. Donald John Trump has been impeached on two articles of Impeachment: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

These articles never expire.

These articles never go away.

This will forever be his legacy.

And the GOP will forever be the party that chose party over country.

The GOP willfully ignored a president who:

  • Shook down a world leader to call for an investigation into his then-likely opponent in the 2020 election;
  • refused subpoenas from the United States Congress and ordered his White House appointees to disregard subpoenas from the United States Congress;
  • he personally and repeatedly instructed the Postmaster General to double shipping rates for Amazon, in an attempt to inflict billions of dollars of new costs on founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post;
  • he referred to African countries as “shitholes” and Mexicans as “rapists”;
  • he called neo-Nazis “very fine people”;

And there’s more the GOP willfully ignored. He was only impeached on the first two bullet points above.

Donald J. Trump deserved to be impeached and he deserves to be removed from office.

Will his trial in the Senate be an actual trial, or will Moscow Mitch McConnell and Spineless Lindsay Graham hold a sham, good ol’ white boys trial?

So far, Moscow Mitch has signaled a show trial only, claiming that it’s not up to the Senate to do the House’s job.

But the House impeaches. That’s an indictment.

Now, the House, the equivalent of the prosecution, must put its evidence before the jury, the United States Senate. Just as prosecutors must prove their cases, this trial before the Senate is the venue for the House to call witnesses and subpoena documents. No prosecution ends with an indictment.

So let’s see and hear it all.

Remember, the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court John Roberts will preside, and Justice Roberts is not one to take anything he does lightly.

This is only the third time in the history of our Republic that a U.S. President will stand trial before the Senate.

May the trial be full, complete, open, thorough, and exhaustive, with all evidence and witnesses presented.

Even the president himself.

The Trump Administration’s Plan to Dismantle Climate Science

melting glacier in Greenland

The Trump Administration is not only trying to confuse the truth of climate change; the administration is actively working to dismantle the actual science behind the reality of climate change.

This is a deadly endeavor by men, coal lobbyists, oil lobbyists, who will not be alive in a couple of decades as the worst continues to hit.

Essentially, do no projections that go further than 40 years or so. This is akin to what totalitarian regimes put out statistics.

And people laugh when these regimes put out these stats.

Are we laughing?

From Michael Barbaro at the New York Times:

From Day 1, the Trump administration has tried to dismantle regulations aimed at curbing climate change. Now officials are attempting to undermine the very science on which such policies rest. Woman Arrested in Poland for Painting Virgin Mary with a Rainbow Halo

Virgin Mary of Czestochowa with rainbow halo
This artistic depiction of the Virgin Mary of Czestochowa with a rainbow halo could land a Polish woman in jail for two years.

Truly disgusting. Blasphemy is a crime against the state in Poland. An artist has been arrested and faces two years in prison.

From our friends at LGBTQNation:

A 51-year-old Polish woman has been arrested for blasphemy after she painted the Virgin Mary with a rainbow halo.

Polish interior minister Joachim Brudzi?ski announced the arrest, saying she was detained for “carrying out a profanation of the Virgin Mary of Cz?stochowa.” The Black Madonna of Cz?stochowa is a Byzantine icon that is housed in the country’s holiest Catholic shrine.

“Offending religious feeling” is a crime in Poland punishable by up to two years in prison.

“Telling stories about freedom and ‘tolerance’ doesn’t give anyone the right to offend the feelings of believers,” Brudzi?ski said, adding that the paintings are “cultural barbarism.”

How close are we to this happening in the United States under Trump?

Undocumented Immigrants Working for Trump Are Tired of His Abuse & Insults

Victoria Morales
Victoria Morales.

The undocumented immigrants working for Donald Trump’s New Jersey golf course are fed up with the President’s abuse and insults, according to one woman who works for his club, the New York Times reports.

Victorina Morales has been a housekeeper at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., for more than five years. She’s cleaned Trump’s toilet. She’s made Trump’s bed. She’s dusted his crystal golf trophies. She has worked for him while he’s been President.

Because of the “outstanding” support she has provided during Mr. Trump’s visits, Ms. Morales in July was given a certificate from the White House Communications Agency inscribed with her name.

Think about it. This was a person, an undocumented immigrant, who had Access. That’s a hot word in D.C. Access. Access to the President of the United States.

And who wants to bet that President Trump knew he had undocumented workers at Trump properties?

I’d put money on it.

NBC quotes Ms. Morales, “I told them that I don’t have papers, I don’t speak English and that I was an immigrant. They said, ‘No, it doesn’t matter.'”

Trump’s people deny they knew. I doubt that.

At any rate, Ms. Morales is speaking out, the NYTimes says:

Ms. Morales said she has been hurt by Mr. Trump’s public comments since he became president, including equating Latin American immigrants with violent criminals. It was that, she said, along with abusive comments from a supervisor at work about her intelligence and immigration status, that made her feel that she could no longer keep silent.

“We are tired of the abuse, the insults, the way he talks about us when he knows that we are here helping him make money,” she said. “We sweat it out to attend to his every need and have to put up with his humiliation.”

From NBC again:

The Trump Organization LLC, the primary holding company for the president’s hundreds of businesses, referred NBC News to the White House, which didn’t directly address the Times report. It said in a statement:

“We have tens of thousands of employees across our properties and have very strict hiring practices. If any employee submitted false documentation in an attempt to circumvent the law, they will be terminated immediately.”

Right. And those who knowingly hired and humiliated them?

They’ll be promoted.

Or maybe run for president some day.

What is a Democrat? How do we come in from The Wilderness?

A Democratic Donkey ready to fight
A Democratic Donkey ready to fight
Are Democrats poised and ready for the battles ahead.

If you haven’t yet listened to Jon Favreau’s documentary podcast The Wilderness, it’s time. The content is engaging, fascinating, and inspirational. Most of all, it explores the question, “What is a Democrat?” Who are we? How did we get here, with Donald Trump as President of the United States, a minority voice in Congress, a minority of Democratic governors, so many Republicans elected at the state and local levels? Yet, Democrats far outnumber Republicans in this country.

Who are we? Where are we? Why aren’t we voting? What do we stand for?

The podcast is excellent.

GOP Senator Wants to Take Away Health Coverage So People Find God

GOP State Senator Mark Green of Tennessee needs a Congress “Come to Jesus” talk. His radical, perverted, and twisted preference is for Tennessee to reject medicaid expansion because health care somehow prevents people from finding God.

Poor people, at least. I don’t see Mr. Green volunteering to give up his own medical coverage so he can get closer to Jesus.

That’s what he said. And Mr. Green now wants to go to congress. His opponent, Democrat Justin Kanew, shared this video where Green confesses to his death-panel mentality, sharing his desire to deny the people of Tennessee health coverage because the federal expansion of Medicaid would keep people from finding Jesus.

From Justin Kanew:

NEW VIDEO: My opponent Mark Green explains the radical religious views behind his decision to reject billions of our federal Medicaid expansion dollars – which caused many rural hospitals to close and 300,000 Tennesseans to go without health coverage, including 30,000 veterans.

Here’s what Green says in the video:

… every person who came to Christ came to Christ with a physical need… People go to God because of a physical need and they walk away with a spiritual need met. That’s the story of the Gospels. And so government has stepped in, at least in this country, and done all the work for the church. And so the person who’s in need — they look to the government for the answer. Not God. And I think, in that way, government has done an injustice that’s even bigger than just the entitlement — creation of an entitlement welfare state. I think it’s even bigger. And in this setting, I’ll share the story… I think it interrupts the opportunity for people to come to a saving knowledge of who God is…

How easy it is for some of those who have to deny those who have not.
